소개
ABOUT
Founded in 1967 as the Department of Decorative Arts, Ewha Womans University’s Fashion Design Major has pioneered an art-based approach to fashion design education, building on the College of Art and Design’s foundations in arts pedagogy and sustaining a program philosophy established over decades. Grounded in a studio culture where making is inseparable from exhibition and critique, the major brings contemporary fashion discourse into direct dialogue with material practice—expanding fashion beyond industrial output into a site of artistic creation. By exploring fashion at the intersection of body and sensibility, social context, and formal inquiry, the program opens new horizons for Wearable Art and advances fashion as an aesthetic, philosophical, and cultural language of our time.

In the past, products and services primarily pursued the utility value of physical function, but nowadays they gradually demand not only emotional function, but also intelligent service, accelerating the convergence of knowledge and technology between diverse professional fields, so called “hybrid phenomenon”. From electric/electronic or wireless information device to means of transportation, medical device, robot, and game device, the knowledge and technology, which respective industrial areas have accumulated, are now enhancing their own value and utility through the point of view of new companions, such as marketing, design, psychology, brain recognition engineering, etc.
This laboratory was established to deal with this reality. We intend to provide the insight about the future of unpredictable market, retain the durability of development of technology, and contribute to the production of creative knowledge and contents through convergent design education, research, and business. The major businesses of this laboratory are certification scale development and industrial resource recovery of creative styling, and experimental-creative design DB construction of digital makers.

Professor Arts & Design Building, A 103 jeshon@ewha.ac.kr
Jeung Eun Shon is a sculptor and educator who graduated from the Department of Sculpture and the graduate program at Ewha Womans University College of Art & Design, and later earned a second Master’s degree in Sculpture from Maryland Institute College of Art
in the United States.
Since her debut as an artist in 2000, she has presented works exploring themes related to women and poetic language through exhibitions at museums, biennales, and various art institutions in Korea and abroad. Working primarily as an installation artist, she has investigated methods of communication through perceptual experience by arranging symbolic imagery and synesthetic elements within space. Her recent research focuses on female sculptural figures and the tactile qualities of sculptural materials.
She currently teaches courses including Drawing, Form and Space, Spatial Installation, and Contemporary Art Studies in the Department of Sculpture, while actively mentoring students in exhibition practices and artistic development.
Jihye Kim
Fine Arts Division/Ceramics
Professor Arts & Design Building B #306 02-3277-2530 kimjihye@ewha.ac.kr
Professor Jihye Kim received her BFA and MFA in Ceramic Arts from the College of Art at Ewha Womans University and earned a second MFA in Ceramics from Kent State University in the United States. She subsequently completed a program in Art Criticism and Theory at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and received her PhD in Art Studies from Ewha Womans University with a dissertation on feminism and tactility.
She has actively exhibited both in Korea and internationally, presenting ceramic installation works that focus on the material properties and tactile qualities of the ceramic medium. In parallel, she expands her artistic practice through research exploring the relationship between faith and art in a contemporary context.
She teaches courses such as Ceramic Sculpture and Artistic Research, guiding students in an integrated approach that combines material-based studio practice, critical thinking, and research-driven creative methodologies.
Jong Ku Kim
Fine Arts Division/Sculpture
Professor jkukim@ewha.ac.kr
Jong Ku Kim is a professor in the Department of Sculpture at Ewha Womans University College of Art & Design. He studied Sculpture at Seoul National University and its graduate school, and later earned a Master’s degree from Chelsea College of Arts
in the United Kingdom.
Beginning with sculpture works carved from solid steel, he became interested in iron powder through experiences involving the transformation and loss of material. Through works such as Iron Powder Calligraphy, Iron Powder Landscapes, Iron Powder Scenery, and Fe-Plants, he has continuously expanded the concept of sculpture. His practice explores the relationships between material and humanity, as well as creation and disappearance, and he is currently preparing a project that transforms military tanks into new landscapes through processes of grinding and reconstruction.
He has been internationally active, including participation in the P.S.1 International Studio Program at The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA)
in New York. His works are included in the collections of major institutions in Korea and abroad, including National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea, Seoul Museum of Art, Spencer Museum of Art, and Cleveland Museum of Art.
Believing that art originates not from external form but from inner perception, he encourages students through “slow drawing” to observe both the subject and themselves with greater depth. He approaches materials as entities to think alongside, helping students develop their own unique perspectives and artistic language through the questions and discoveries that emerge during the creative process.
Kim Namsee
College of Fine Arts / Studies in Visual Arts
Associate Professor College of Fine Arts A동 505호 02-3277-2529 namseekim@ewha.ac.kr
Fine Arts/Aesthetics/Cultural Theory
Professor Kim Namsee, who specializes in cultural theory and aesthetics, graduated from the Department of Aesthetics at Seoul National University and earned a Ph.D. in Cultural Studies and Philosophy from Humboldt University of Berlin in Germany. (Literature and Intelligence).
Lee Gi young
Fine Arts Division/Korean Painting
Professor 조형예술A동 519호 02) 3277 - 2490 iky1127@ewha.ac.kr
Based on sustained research on plain paper (soji, 素紙), Lee explores the formal possibilities of ink through its materiality. Through repetitive and disciplined practice, he establishes rules and boundaries within the pictorial surface, while the temporality and traces accumulated through this process become significant elements of his work. His investigation of materiality does not remain at the level of the visual representation of tradition, but expands into expressions that are newly reinterpreted within a contemporary sensibility and structural framework.
Currently teaching courses such as Contemporary Painting, Painting Structure, and Brush Aesthetics, Lee introduces experimental approaches to traditional materials and the various modes of expression that emerge from traditional practice. In addition, through multifaceted methods of drawing and documentation, students are encouraged to explore how processes of thinking and making can be translated into visual language.
Mi kyoung Kim
Fine Arts Division/Ceramics
Professor Arts & Design Building B #305 02-3277-6711 mkkim6762@ewha.ac.kr
Professor Mikyung Kim is a faculty member in the Ceramics program within the College of Art & Design at Ewha Womans University. She is both an artist and educator whose work explores a sculptural language formed through the relationships between clay, fire, and time. She received her BFA in Ceramic Arts from the College of Art at Ewha Womans University and her MFA from its Graduate School of Industrial Arts (now the Graduate School of Design). She also earned an MFA in Ceramic Sculpture from New York University.
