Im, Jang soon conducts research on the conceptual framework and materiality of Korean painting within contemporary society. He has been the subject of exhibitions in numerous venues including Kumho Museum of Art, Youngeun Museum of Art, Haeum Museum, Seoul National University Museum of Art(SNU MOA), The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston(MFAH), etc. Im completed artist-in-residence programs at the MFAH Core Program, Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, Lighthouse Works, MacDowell Colony, and Vermont Studio Center in the US; Kanazawa Art Port in Japan; and the Toji Cultural Foundation, Artist Residency Temi, Cheongju Art Studio, and Youngeun Art Studio Program in Korea.

Lee Gi young

Based on sustained research on plain paper (soji, 素紙), Lee explores the formal possibilities of ink through its materiality. Through repetitive and disciplined practice, he establishes rules and boundaries within the pictorial surface, while the temporality and traces accumulated through this process become significant elements of his work. His investigation of materiality does not remain at the level of the visual representation of tradition, but expands into expressions that are newly reinterpreted within a contemporary sensibility and structural framework.

Currently teaching courses such as Contemporary Painting, Painting Structure, and Brush Aesthetics, Lee introduces experimental approaches to traditional materials and the various modes of expression that emerge from traditional practice. In addition, through multifaceted methods of drawing and documentation, students are encouraged to explore how processes of thinking and making can be translated into visual language.

Seo Eun ae

Seo Eun-ae works with the traditional color painting techniques of East Asian painting, exploring the terrain of perception that shifts throughout the journey of life while moving between the two axes of ideal (理想) and reality (現實). Her work visualizes these changing landscapes of awareness in ways that are at times playful and at times contemplative. She received her BFA and MFA in Oriental Painting from Ewha Womans University. She also completed the printmaking research program at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, China and the doctoral coursework in Oriental Painting at the College of Art and Design, Ewha Womans University.

She currently teaches courses such as Korean Painting Studio and Figurative Expression Studies, guiding students of Oriental painting to explore new possibilities for contemporary Korean painting grounded in an understanding of traditional systems of thought and formal language while engaging with the spirit of the present.
