CURRICULUM
Year 1
At the foundational stage, students build a basis in ceramic art through an understanding of clay as a medium.
In Ceramic Work, they explore a wide range of expressive approaches using clay through experimental and playful methods, expanding their creative sense of form. In Ceramic Run, students acquire theoretical knowledge and basic practical skills related to the overall process of ceramic forming—including types of clay and forming techniques—thereby establishing a foundation for ceramic practice.
Year 2
Building on foundational skills, this stage deepens students’ formal abilities and theoretical understanding.
In Ceramics I & II, students further develop hand-building techniques to enhance their sense of form and their ability to translate concepts into visual form. Through Wheel Throwing, they gain an understanding of the physical properties of clay and acquire fundamental wheel techniques. In addition, Contemporary Ceramic Theory introduces the formation and development of contemporary ceramics, fostering critical thinking skills. In Digital Modeling, students learn 3D modeling and relevant software, expanding their approaches to making.
Year 3
At this advanced stage, students integrate diverse making methods and theoretical knowledge to expand the scope of ceramic expression.
In Ceramics and Space, they explore ceramics in relation to architecture, installation, and public art, examining how ceramic works interact with and transform space. On/Off Wheel develops combined forming techniques and surface treatments based on wheel work. In Molded Ceramics, students learn industrial production methods such as mold-making and slip casting, while Ceramic Materials deepens their understanding of glazes and firing processes. Additionally, Contemporary Ceramics in Practice examines key issues and trends in current ceramic practice, strengthening analytical and theoretical perspectives.
Year 4
As a culminating stage, students refine their individual artistic direction and establish professional competence.
In Ceramic Sculpture, they explore conceptual and aesthetic approaches using clay as a sculptural medium. Ceramic Craft focuses on contemporary ceramic practice from a craft perspective, emphasizing form and aesthetics through wheel-based work. Casting Objects provides both practical and theoretical understanding of casting techniques and industrial ceramic processes, broadening production capabilities. In Craft Startup: Craft Mediation, students explore career paths related to curating, merchandising, and education in the crafts, while developing entrepreneurial and professional skills.
