Professor Mikyung Kim is a faculty member in the Ceramics program within the College of Art & Design at Ewha Womans University. She is both an artist and educator whose work explores a sculptural language formed through the relationships between clay, fire, and time. She received her BFA in Ceramic Arts from the College of Art at Ewha Womans University and her MFA from its Graduate School of Industrial Arts (now the Graduate School of Design). She also earned an MFA in Ceramic Sculpture from New York University.
Her research and teaching focus on industrial ceramics and casting techniques, examining the material properties of ceramics and the formal possibilities that emerge within systems of repetitive production. In particular, she has explored how the functional attributes of craft can be expanded into the context of contemporary visual culture and artistic practice through both her work and pedagogy.
She has presented her research through numerous solo exhibitions and artistic activities in Korea and internationally, including in Seoul, Busan, and New York, and has served as a visiting professor at San Diego State University. She previously served as Director of the Ceramic Research Institute at Ewha Womans University and was recognized as an Outstanding Teaching Professor in 2025.
